People Will Only Hear What They Want To

You have control over what you say but you don’t have control over what people hear.

You Want Proof?

OK, sing along this popular track by Boyz II Men entitled ‘End of the road’

Although we’ve come to the end of the road

Still I can’t let you go

It’s unnatural, you belong to me, I belong to you
(Gotcha! Well,  some of you.)

How many of us including myself have sung the lyrics of this song and other songs wrongly, and yet with so much conviction and confidence? 🎶IT’S SO NATURAL🎶 instead of 🎶 IT’S UNNATURAL🎶 . Sung even with our eyes closed 😁.

This is just one in a million examples of how people choose to hear what they want to hear and not necessarily what was said or spoken. They tell themselves this is what is being said and yet the speaker is saying something else.

What have you been hearing when people have been speaking? Of what God has said what have you heard?

Food For Thought: I know what I’ve said but I don’t know what you have heard.

The Tomato Garden

An old Italian gentleman lived alone in New Jersey. He wanted to plant his annual tomato garden, but it was very difficult work, as the ground was hard. His only son, Vincent, who used to help him, was in prison. The old man wrote a letter to his son and described his predicament:

Dear Vincent, I am feeling pretty sad because it Iooks like I won’t be able to plant my tomato garden this year. I’m just getting too old to be digging up a garden plot. I know if you were here my troubles would be over. I know you would be happy to dig the plot for me like in the old days. Love, Papa

A few days later he received a letter from his son.

Dear Papa, Don’t dig up that garden. That’s where the bodies are buried. Love, Vinnie

At 4 am The next morning, FBI agents and the local police arrived and dug up the entire area without finding any bodies. They apologized to the old men and left.

That same day the old man received another letter from his son.

Dear Papa, Go ahead and plant the tomatoes now. That’s the best I could do under the circumstances. Love you, Vinnie.

Rising  Above Criticism

for a just man falls seven times and rises up again, but the wicked will fall into mischief.
Proverbs 24:16 MEV

One day a school teacher wrote on the board the following:

When she was done, she looked to the students and they were all laughing at her, because of the first equation which was wrong, and then the teacher said the following;

I wrote that first one wrong on purpose, because I wanted you to learn something important. This was for you to know how the world out there will treat you. You can see that I wrote RIGHT 9 times, but none of You congratulated me for it, But you all laughed and criticized me because of one wrong thing I did.

So this is the lesson:

The world will never appreciate the good you do a million times, but will criticize the one wrong thing you do…
